A variety of classes focusing on insurance-related topics are offered at UNLV. Classes can be taken as electives or combined to earn a minor in insurance and risk management. A major in insurance and risk management will be a future offering of UNLV’s Lee Business School.
FIN 323 “Insurance Company Operations”
Students will get a broad look at the insurance industry and risk management operations using real-world examples of insurable risks and risk management operational practices. Students will learn the technical and social skills needed to succeed directly from industry leaders including company executives, corporate risk managers, sales leaders, underwriters, claims adjusters, actuaries, and loss control engineers.
This introductory class is ideal for students who are curious about the breadth and depth of the insurance industry and is a great supplementary course for all business students.
FIN 324 “Addressing Commercial Property Risks”
This class provides students with an understanding of how risk management techniques, including commercial property insurance, can be used to address an organization’s property loss exposures and as a basis for developing an organization’s complete property and liability risk management and insurance program. Students will better understand how this information improves decision-making enterprise-wide.
This class is ideal for students pursuing a degree in insurance, real estate, or entrepreneurship.
